School is back in full swing. Working 3 jobs is EXTREMELY tiring. Dev is also feeling the pressure of working and going to school and studying for CFP all at the same time. If you see us and we look like walking zombies, this is why. So, to brighten up this seemingly awful routine, we have to notice the little things.
Most of the time at the rehab center I work at things are quite and normal...well as normal as a building full of old people with dementia and Alzheimer's can be. But sometimes really cute things happen that make me really like that job. The beginning of February is Chinese New Year, so for an activity, the residents go to make masks and then they did a parade through the hallways the next day. It is the year of the rabbit, so one of the residents dressed up in an Easter Bunny costume and headed the parade handing out lucky coins. It was so cute to see all the old people in their walkers and motorized scooter filing down the hallway yelling "Happy New Year" and making noise with their kazoos and clappers.
Another time one of my patients, who is usually quite grumpy, actually let me talk to him about his diet and weight and a whole bunch of other stuff that he would normally just yell at people for bringing up. The next day he rolled himself into my office to personally thank me for spending the time to really listen to him. Of course, now when he has any kind of problem, I am the one he comes to. He came in one day sounding very desperate and said I was the only one that could help him. Turns out he missed a phone call on his cell phone and didn't know how to see who it was from or hear the voicemail. Apparently I am the only one in the whole facility who knows how to use a cell phone :) Anyways, just little things like that really brighten my extremely long and taxing days. Dev always is in a really good mood when he has a client that listens to him and respects him and appreciates what he is doing for them. I can now see why.
