I know, I know, I know...as if the baby wasn't a big enough change...Devan decided he needed a new job. Well, we both decided. Devan absolutely LOVES finance, but he was really starting to hate working for MetLife for a whole lot of reasons that just kept building up. So, one day he just decided that was it. He was going to let his paycheck run out (since he was commision, if you don't sell product, you don't replenish you pay check pool) and then resign. In the meantime he would find a new job. He called probably every bank you can think of and had a promising prospect with One Nevada Credit Union. He had that interview on a Tuesday and was told to call them back on Monday and they would set up the final interview with the head guy. So, on Wednesday night, we went to MetLife, cleaned out Devan's desk and left his resignation letter. Keep in mind, he technically is now unemployed. Sounds like a crazy thing to do in this economy, but we both didn't even have a second thought about it. We knew things would work out. Not even 12 hours later, Devan's dad called and offered Devan a job. He had no idea that Devan had just quit MetLife or was considering quitting at all.
Back story: Devan and his dad have been talking for about a year about Devan working for him. But, timing was never right...there was not a set position, or any agreement on pay, or where exactly Devan would work (Wyson Financial is in St. George), or etc. etc. etc. In all of these talks, there was never an official offer made to Devan, more just brainstorming on potential possibilities.
Ok, back to live action. So when Dan called, it was just a flat out offer. He had fired someone that morning. He talked to Launa about it and Launa said we are never hiring family again. (The guy they fired is pretty much family). Dan was going to put an ad in the newspaper, but then talked to Launa again later and they both said that they couldn't get Devan out of their minds and felt like they should offer him the job. So Dan gave Devan an offer...this much pay, this much time in St. George, these responsibilities, and we renegotiate in a year. To cut to the chase, we took the job. It is the best possible thing that could have happened to us right now for so many reasons...number one being that Devan absolutely LOVES his job. He has so much more opportunity to use his knowledge than he did a MetLife. Number two: the job is not straight commission, which I love. Commission only is ridiculously stressful, especially when you are just starting, so a steady paycheck is really comforting...especially with baby on the way. Of course there is one downside. Devan is in St. George Monday morning through Thursday night. Not my favorite. He does work in Vegas on Fridays though which is nice.
So, the big question is...are we moving to St. George? We don't know. We will at least be here until next summer so I can finish my internship and have a baby since my job is the one that provides our health insurance. After that, we don't know exactly what will happen. Wyson Financial has a lot of Vegas clients that Devan could work with, but the real business is in St. George. At this point, we are just playing it by ear and have come to realize that it was not just circumstantial that Devan got this job at this time. Wherever we end up is where we are supposed to be. Remember way back in January I wrote a post about how we are so amazingly blessed and that God just pulls out all the stops and his timing is flawless? He gives us just enough time to stress a little and test us, and then when it gets down to the wire...amazing things happen. Well, add this one to our list. Like I said, this has been in the talks for probably over a year, and there were plenty of times we were set to take the job and then it would fall through and it was so irritating and frustrating...but it just wasn't the right time. Right after this whole thing unfolded, Devan posted on facebook (and this is so Devan) "Be still and know that I am God." Translation: "Chill, I got this." Ain't that the truth!
