Ahhh...vacation!

Thanks to Adam and April, we had a glorious, and very random/spur of the moment vacation this past week. They were offered a 3 day two bedroom suite timeshare condo in Sedona, AZ by a client. We were originally supposed to go camping that week, but this seemed more our style, so they invited us to come along. Sedona was absolutely GORGEOUS!!! We stayed at the Hyatt which is right up on a hill so we had an amazing view of the beautiful red rock mountain that surround the city. There was actually a mountain called Thunder Mountain that looked exactly like the Thunder Mountain ride at Disneyland. We decided this must have been were the inspiration came from.

We went to a little shopping center called Tlaquepaque...yes that is spelled correctly...that was so cool. It reminded us both of Adventureland in Disneyland. The shops were all little pueblo type buildings. There were alot of really cool galleries to go and look around in, and we found a delicious shake shop. We had a mango banana shake that was amazing! There was one gallery that had all of this furniture made out of rocks. It was suprisingly comfortable. It was really fun to walk around, but there wasn't really anything too realistic to buy unless your house was decorated in a Native American motif.

The above two pictures were taken at Slide Rock National Park. Sedona is all about the outdoors: hiking, horseback riding, jeep tours, etc. Unfortunately, we only had one full day there, so we didn't have alot of time to explore the beautiful red rock mountains. The one place we went was Slide Rock. Further down from where the top picture was, there is a natural water slide. The rocks are so smooth and slippery that you can just ride down the river on your butt. However, neither of us did it because it was really windy and cold that day, and I wanted to be able to see someone else do it because it looked a little scary, but of course nobody did because it was so cold. Maybe next time. It sounds like a really fun idea! Despite the cold water, it was really pretty scenery. We hiked back a little ways and found the leftovers of one of the original owners' houses from the early 1900's. I think Devan is pretending that he is cooking or something.
Like I said before, Sedona is really into the arts and had alot of galleries. This statue was outside one of the bronze sculpture galleries were we actually saw the lady carving things out in her clay. So talented!! I just thought, "why would anybody want a huge statue of a pig?"
Ahhh...the gorgeous view from the Hyatt....of course pictures don't do it any justice what so ever. It was a really relaxing vacation with most of our time spent wandering shops, eating, and lounging by the pool. Much more upper class than camping at Mount Charleston would have been :) That is my kind of vacation!!!
